Charwood museum - ladybird bookshelves and bench

Ladybird books originated in Loughborough and were produced there until 1999.

We were selected by The Charnwood museum to create some bespoke furniture for the launch of their new major exhibition. Both the book shelf and the bench are made from cherry with walnut details.

The book shelf has a cupboard door with a chalk board front to it where children can leave their recommendations of books for the next person to read. We also hid small cherry and walnut ladybirds on the furniture for people to explore and find.

Each bend was created by using a vacum bending technique, compressing the wood against a mold until set. The bench is fitted with a lockable compartment to store exhibition equipment.
